The 2016 Japan cherry blossom forecast has been released. According to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, cherry blossoms can be seen blooming in Tokyo and Nagoya starting March 22, and by late March they will be at their peak. Symbolizing spring, cherry blossoms under the sunlight during the day appear romantic and poetic; at night, illuminated by various lights, the changes in color and shadows make the blossoms even more stunning and enchanting.
 

● Rikugien Garden (Tokyo)
Weeping cherry trees are the iconic feature of Rikugien Garden. Standing about 15 meters tall and 20 meters wide, they bloom gracefully like a flowing waterfall. Here, every year in sync with the cherry blossom season, the “Weeping Cherry & Daimyo Garden Illumination Show” is held. The daytime scenery bathed in spring light and the nighttime illumination revealing the garden’s charm after dark are both must-sees. During the illumination period, the “Cherry Tea House” in the zelkova tree area sells light meals, snacks, and merchandise, while the “Matcha Tea House” offers matcha and Japanese confectionery gift sets. The last call for ordering and sales is around 19:30. If you plan to dine here, it’s recommended to go early, as there is an additional entrance fee.

● Kintai Bridge (Yamaguchi Prefecture)
Built in 1673, Kintai Bridge is a five-span wooden bridge over the Nishiki River, the largest river in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and is one of Japan’s three most famous bridges. About 3,000 cherry blossom trees, including Somei Yoshino and double-flowered varieties, along with the scenic Nishiki River, create an absolutely breathtaking view. At night, you can also enjoy the cherry blossoms on the grassy square perfect for flower viewing.
