Japan’s Kyushu region is home to a much-discussed European-style village, where the lovely, fairytale-like streetscape draws numerous visitors annually. And for fans of Hayao Miyazaki, this spot is especially unmissable — because this Yufuin Floral Village, modeled after the Cotswolds region of England, combines the Japanese fantasy style of Studio Ghibli animated films with a British countryside vibe. In the village, you can find not only Peter Rabbit’s Pet Garden and shops selling merchandise related to Alice in Wonderland, but also the Kiki’s Bread Shop from “Kiki’s Delivery Service”!

Yufuin Floral Village is located at the base of Yunotsubo Street. Though compact in size, it doesn’t skimp on details in street scenery or interior arrangements, instantly immersing visitors in the warm ambiance of a traditional English village. Originally opened in late 2012, the owners specifically brought the village style of England’s Cotswolds to this site. Here, you’ll find a variety of whimsical specialty shops and vibrant little gardens, plus accommodations where you can stay and fully experience this fantastical world blending imagination with British flair.
