An online viral photo of Taiwan black bear “Bobby” standing at Kaohsiung’s Shoushan Zoo was jokingly claimed by netizens to be a part-time worker in disguise. In response, not only did Shoushan Zoo post photos of Bobby standing normally on its official fan page to clarify, but Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu also humorously stated that Kaohsiung does not allow unsafe part-time jobs.

Taking the opportunity to clarify that Bobby is indeed a genuine Taiwan black bear, Shoushan Zoo also used the moment to educate the public that wild Taiwan black bears naturally stand on their hind legs—especially when foraging, on alert, or startled—just like humans. As for Shoushan Zoo’s Bobby, his standing behavior is encouraged by keepers who hide food within the exhibit to stimulate the bears’ natural foraging instincts, as part of behavioral enrichment training.

Daily from 08:30 to 17:30; buses run every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 15–20 minutes on holidays. (No service on Mondays when the zoo is closed.) During extended nighttime opening hours, Route 56 extends its schedule accordingly, with the last bus departing the zoo gate at 9:00 PM.
