Many people avoid traveling because they fear motion sickness. The feeling of motion sickness is awful, making you feel nauseous and sick.According to The New York Times, experts say that motion sickness mainly occurs due to an imbalance between the eyes, inner ear, and spine, but there are actually some ways to prevent it.

1. Keep your eyes following the direction of movement
When many people start feeling motion sickness, they naturally close their eyes or even lie down. But experts believe you should do the opposite.People prone to motion sickness should keep their eyes open. If you’re in a vehicle, look toward the direction of travel; if you’re on a cruise, go stand on the deck; if you’re on a plane, open the window shade and look out at the clouds below.

2. Avoid things that can cause motion sickness
Many people enjoy reading, watching TV, or reading newspapers while in a moving vehicle, but these can make your inner ear unbalanced. To avoid motion sickness, be the driver or sit in the front passenger seat. If you’re on a plane or cruise, the best option is to book a window seat in advance.

3. Take medication
Motion sickness medication can sometimes be quite effective, but you need to take it about an hour before departure, as most medications will make you drowsy.

4. Eat and drink wisely
Spicy or strongly flavored foods are best avoided before departure, as they can make you feel nauseous. Before traveling, eat easily digestible food, and it's not recommended to consume alcohol or carbonated drinks.
