Wood Lovers’ Paradise: A Newly Opened Tourist Factory in Chiayi Where You Can Create Your Own Wooden Tag

In recent years, there has been a surge in tourist factory travel, with various parks across the country striving to create their own unique features. Chiayi’s newly openedAimucun Tourist Factory,themed around wood and infused with elements of fairy tales,presents the traditional industry in a youthful way. It offers a variety of interactive facilities that help the public learn more about Alishan’s forestry culture. The factory also provides hands-on DIY workshops where visitors can craft their very own wooden tags — something many have called incredibly fun and engaging.

Aimucun, which officially began operations at the end of 2016, is located on Wenhua Road in Chiayi City, covering an area of 700 pyeong (approximately 2,310 square meters). It was transformed from the “Shun Yi Timber Factory” into a tourist factory. Leveraging the foundation of a traditional timber processing plant and incorporating tourism elements, it has created a wood-themed paradise suitable for both children and adults.

Shun Yi was a cypress timber factory during the 1960s, originally led by Yan Chao-shun, known as the “Cypress Wonder Man.” It weathered Taiwan’s turbulent economic crises before the second-generation manager, Yan Wei-de, along with employees, spent five years dedicated to building the tourist factory. Their goal was to let people feel the warmth of wood while learning more about Alishan’s forestry history and raising awareness about the importance of cherishing natural resources.

Instead of static information displays, the park uses interactive installations. In addition to showcasing physical wood materials, woodworking tools, and industry artifacts, it also includes touch and scent zones, allowing visitors to experience things firsthand for an educational yet entertaining experience. There are also a variety ofwoodworking DIY experiences. Visitors can sign up for their favorite courses to create personalized items such as blessing wind chimes, multi-use boxes, and character-themed tags — all great fun. Prices range from NT$200 to NT$250 per person.
