Romantic Golden Rain of Golden Shower Trees & Husi Reservoir Flower Festival Kicks Off

The Husi Reservoir Romantic Golden Rain Golden Shower Tree Flower Festival takes place from May 29 to June 12, integrating local features including cricket fighting contests, DIY sessions for pickled bamboo shoot strips and pineapple jam, and green specialty agricultural product markets. Visitors can take the Green Main Line bus of Greater Tainan to Xinhua District, then transfer to the Green 13 Branch Line to reach Husi Reservoir. Additionally, those with the event DM enjoy half-price entry on weekdays, half-price solar-powered boat rides, and discounted campsite fees.

The "Golden Shower Tree" is native to India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In Taiwan, its flowering season is between May and June. Its distinctive feature is the cascading clusters of bright yellow flowers that hang elegantly. When the breeze blows, petals flutter down romantically, creating a scene like a golden rain shower.

Forty years ago, Husi Reservoir commissioned National Cheng Kung University to plan its landscaping, importing Golden Shower Trees from India. They were planted in large numbers near the Youth Activity Center, by the Huyue Suspension Bridge, and along the northern lakeside pathways. As native species, they are known for their abundant flowers, sparse leaves, and vibrant colors. Because the petals fall easily, during full bloom the trees and ground are densely covered with golden blooms—a sight visitors fondly call “trees full of yellow flowers, ground covered in gold,” seen as an auspicious symbol and adding to the charm of Tainan, the city of flowers.
