Studio Ghibli Museum Reopens: Must-See 15th Anniversary Exhibition

The Ghibli Museum has announced a new initiative, launching the special exhibition “Ride the Catbus to the Ghibli Forest (猫バスにのって ジブリの森へ)” starting July 16, aiming to look back on the past 15 years by reassembling major exhibitions hosted by the Ghibli Museum, such as those featuring popular animated works like Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, all presented in fresh and unique ways.

The museum also revealed that the Catbus from the classic film “My Neighbor Totoro” will be specially recreated in an adult-sized version this time, allowing older fans to board the Catbus and journey together to the dreamlike Ghibli Forest.

The Ghibli Museum in Tokyo is undergoing renovation and will be closed from May 9 to July 15. Starting July 16, the special exhibition “Ride the Catbus to the Ghibli Forest” will open. To effectively prevent ticket scalping, tickets starting in July will be issued under a real-name system, and visitors may be asked to show identification when entering.

Additionally, as July and August are peak summer vacation months, to provide the public with a safe and comfortable experience, Ghibli Museum tickets will be sold via a lottery system.
