Nantou’s Xinyi Township is a renowned destination for plum blossom viewing. Thanks to this year’s cold wave coupled with consecutive days of rainy, high-humidity weather, the plum blossoms are in their best condition in recent years. Popular spots include Fengkuidou, Wusong, Niuchongkeng, and among them, the Waipingding plum area boasts the finest blossoms, becoming a newly emerged hidden gem for plum blossom enthusiasts. Many visitors even come here to admire the flowers at night.

Waipingding’s plum area spans several hectares of plum orchards that have been planted for over 40 years. The slopes are blanketed in what looks like a snowy white floral carpet, and wandering through them, you can also enjoy the delicate, elegant fragrance of the plum blossoms. The Cai Family’s Hidden Gem Plum Garden is a must-visit spot in Waipingding. The old-fashioned wooden house, combined with the fluttering plum blossoms, creates a distinctly classic and nostalgic atmosphere.

To reach Waipingding, take Provincial Highway 21 toward Tonglin Bridge, turn right after crossing the bridge, drive straight until you reach a curve, then turn left and follow the road up the hill via the farm lane to get there. Visitors can park at the midway mountain parking lot and then walk to spots like Tongfu Village and the Cai Family Plum Garden to enjoy the blossoms.
