Typhoon Malakas (No. 16) moved away from Taiwan on the 18th and headed toward Japan, causing serious disasters in southern Japan and the Kyushu region. The Kyushu and Shikoku areas were hit consecutively from the 19th to the 20th, and the typhoon moved toward the Kanto region on the 21st. Flights were also greatly affected. After making landfall in Japan, Typhoon Malakas brought heavy rainfall to Kyushu. Rivers in Miyazaki Prefecture swelled rapidly, with a record-breaking 578 mm of rain falling within 24 hours, leading to flooding. As a result, 630,000 people were evacuated, at least 181 flights were canceled, and there were reports of Shinkansen services being suspended. There were also injuries and missing persons. The Japan Meteorological Agency urged residents to prepare thoroughly for the typhoon, and travelers to Japan are advised to stay updated on the typhoon’s movements.
