The “Taipei 2016 World Stamp Exhibition” coincides with the 120th anniversary of the founding of Chunghwa Post (from 1896 to 2016), and its theme is set as “Heritage and Innovation,” symbolizing the postal service’s leap through time, embracing new initiatives. The overall planning of the exhibition strives for internationalization and a global perspective. A series of activities themed around each exhibition day are designed to convey Chunghwa Post’s corporate image of valuing public welfare and environmental protection. Anime-themed events are also included to attract younger audiences, making it an international cultural and artistic feast.

• 10/21 Postal Day (Post Day)

Every year on October 9 is World Post Day, established by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This year, the stamp exhibition is held from October 21 to 26, and also coincides with the 120th anniversary of Chunghwa Post. The opening day is themed around Postal Day to celebrate on a larger scale.

• 10/22 Designers’ Day

Design is an expression of cultural creativity, stamps are cultural products, and the stamp exhibition is also a cultural activity. With exciting cultural and creative art design events, the exhibition combines stamp design with cultural creativity, showcasing how beauty in small spaces can be both inherited and innovated.

• 10/23 Anime Day (Comics & Animation Day)

Themed around anime, this exhibition day may include preparatory promotional events such as a stamp and anime creation contest. Winners will be announced and awarded at the pre-exhibition press conference, and their works will be displayed in the themed area. During the exhibition, spotlight activities (such as anime artist autograph sessions) will be held, along with the issuance of bookmarks featuring anime works, integrating the elements of stamps to enhance young people’s interest in philately.

• 10/24 Charity Day

Corporate social responsibility means “taking from society and giving back to society.” Chunghwa Post keeps pace with the times, using charity as the theme and combining it with public welfare activities. Stamp (and philatelic product) charity sales will be held in the exhibition stage area, and a blood donation vehicle will be set up outside the venue, with a life insurance booth nearby to promote blood donation. These efforts showcase the exhibition's care for public welfare, enhancing its social image and media exposure.

• 10/25 Environment Day

Saving energy, reducing carbon emissions, and addressing the crisis of global warming are common challenges for humanity. With the slogan of environmental protection, the exhibition will hold related competitions, issue stamps with ecological themes, and create an eco-friendly materials themed area inspired by the “Taipei 2010 Flower Expo Eco-Ark.”

• 10/26 Formosa Day – F.I.P. Day (International Federation of Philatelic Associations Day)

Taiwan is known as Formosa (the Beautiful Island), boasting abundant natural landscapes, as well as natural and cultural resources. During the exhibition, it is suggested to reorganize and repackage past Taiwan-themed stamps, and to release a special Formosa album. Various themed areas will be planned to showcase the beauty of Taiwan to the world.
 

It is worth mentioning that this world exhibition will host the 4th FIP World Stamp Championship, the highest-level competition in the philatelic world, where top philatelists from around the globe gather to compete for the championship’s top honors.

At this year's New York 2016 World Stamp Exhibition, China will showcase five rare and valuable stamp collections, including the Panshi (Coiling Dragon) stamps and their overprints, the history of China's national postal service during the Qing Dynasty, the postal history of Yunnan, the Dutch East Indies Airmail 1920-1942, and dental health—five distinctive collections in total.
