Taiwan’s largest convenience-style Fangshan Post Office becomes a popular photo spot

Fangshan Township in Pingtung County is known as the "hometown of shrikes." For the first time, Chunghwa Post has integrated local characteristics into the design of a post office building, combining green energy, cultural creativity, and localization. The post office’s convenience box has been turned into the building's exterior, complemented by the cute shrike mail carrier at the entrance. This has created Taiwan’s one-of-a-kind “Shrike-Themed Post Office,” which was unveiled on October 14 and immediately became a popular attraction, drawing crowds eager to take photos.

Located along the essential route to Kenting, Fangshan Township is famed as the “hometown of shrikes.” The Shrike-Themed Post Office was completed and unveiled on October 14, featuring Taiwan’s first unique architectural design and 3D mural painting that breaks away from the traditional image commonly associated with post offices. The exterior of the post office resembles a convenience box, and its colorful murals incorporate elements of local culture—featuring shrikes, Fangshan’s signature onions, and Ataulfo mangoes. The adorable shrike figurines even serve as themed mailboxes, prompting passersby to exclaim how cute they are and take commemorative photos.

Not only is the exterior eye-catching, but the solar power system on the roof promotes environmental sustainability. Additionally, every hour, the box lid automatically opens. The post office’s smart guided tour helps visitors learn more about Fangshan’s distinctive attractions, such as nearby Fenggang Old Street, Fangshan Railway Station, the Shrike Ecological Exhibition Hall, and former President Tsai Ing-wen’s ancestral home. It is hoped that the Shrike-Themed Post Office will help boost tourism in Fangshan.
