The Presidential Office Announces New Penalties Under Uber Regulations

The Presidential Office announced the amendment to the Highway Act on the 4th, also known as the so-called Uber clause. According to the Standards for the Formulation of Central Government Regulations, the provisions will take effect three days after being announced by the Presidential Office, meaning the new law could be used to penalize Uber as early as January 6.

Dispatching taxis will incur fines ranging from NT$100,000 to NT$25 million; rewards are also offered for whistleblowers. A penalty benchmark has already been set and will be enforced once the law comes into effect. The public is advised to stay updated on related information.
