Taiwan’s first government-employed robot Pepper makes a delightful debut at its job interview

As technology trends sweep the globe, Pingtung County held a robot job interview on January 3rd, with County Magistrate Pan Meng-an personally serving as the interviewer. The moment the candidate appeared, it instantly became the center of attention under the bright lights — sleek lines, agile joints, exuding a high-tech and stylish vibe from head to toe. After engaging in a series of fun and humorous conversations with Magistrate Pan Meng-an, the “Pepper” robot successfully passed the interview and officially joined the county government team, becoming Taiwan’s first humanoid robot to serve in the public sector.  

With its futuristic appeal, Pepper can interpret emotions and interact well with the public. Last year, the county government introduced four units of the humanoid robot Pepper. Aside from serving as guides for the county government, assisting visitors, offering facility tours, and providing policy information, Pepper puts on dance and singing performances twice daily — at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to interact with Pepper at the county government building. In the future, Pepper will also be scheduled to visit schools and community care centers in various townships, bringing joy to children and seniors across Pingtung.  

Pepper has officially joined the county government team and is Taiwan’s first humanoid robot to serve in the public sector. Pingtung County is dedicated to creating a tourism-friendly environment and fostering local happiness, while also integrating a sense of cutting-edge technology. By introducing the world’s latest humanized tech for public service, the county aims to make a tangible impact on residents’ lives.
