A coffee shop hidden in an auto department store in New Taipei: enjoy warm, handmade desserts!

Nichifuku Enterprise is a coffee and dessert shop hidden inside an auto department store in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei. The store displays various auto parts and accessories, and also offers basic maintenance, installation, and repair services. Despite having just four or five seats, this cozy little space serves up a different selection of handmade limited-edition desserts every day, along with surprise cakes that the owner spontaneously whips up—often not even listed on the menu.

Nichifuku Enterprise is quite small. Though most of the space is dedicated to displaying auto parts and accessories, the desserts and coffee are displayed alongside them, creating a surprisingly warm atmosphere.

The rich flavors of the desserts all come from the owner, who has 4 to 5 years of baking experience. She handcrafts each dessert herself. That day, she kindly and humorously shared details about the cakes available, explaining which ones were sweeter, which had a slightly tangier taste, and how one time she accidentally mixed lemon curd with custard sauce—an unexpectedly beautiful mistake that she ended up loving after trying it herself, so she served it as that day’s hidden dessert.

Almond Tiramisu / Brandy Tiramisu – NT$150

The top layer is sprinkled with Valrhona chocolate, while the base consists of ladyfingers and mascarpone cheese soaked in plenty of brandy and espresso. The brandy aroma is quite pronounced but not overpowering. A meringue mushroom sits atop the dessert—it has a texture that’s like popcorn meets marshmallow.

Nichifuku’s regular tiramisu usually requires advance booking, but we got lucky that day—the owner had made a few extra servings along with the day’s orders, giving us a chance to try it. Overall, it was smooth and enjoyable, though a bit pricey.

Chocolate Sponge Cake – NT$120

A slice reveals smooth whipped cream, and the cake itself is moist and springy, featuring a subtle chocolate flavor. I thought it was fairly average, but J felt it wasn’t very rich, though still quite tasty.

Brown Sugar Latte – NT$90

Dubbed “Paw Print Brown Sugar Latte,” the milk foam on top is textured to resemble the paw pads of cats or dogs—very cute. The sweet brown sugar pairs with the creamy coffee flavor, resulting in a fairly standard-tasting drink.

Lemon Sparkler – NT$50

When we asked for a lighter, less sweet tea option, the owner brought out a packet of British Twinings tea—an off-menu hidden gem.

Nichifuku’s menu is only two pages long. For coffee, they offer Italian-style options and six types of single-origin pour-over coffee: Kenya AA, Yirgacheffe, Golden Mandheling, Golden Mamba, Colombia, and Simoda. Two types are featured each week—you can ask before ordering to see if it’s a bean you’d like. Other options include Nichifuku black tea, fresh milk tea, and chocolate beverages.

The seating area is quite simple. The way the lighting is set up creates a relaxing atmosphere, making the space feel extra cozy.

Afterword

As we were leaving, we asked the owners why they decided to open a coffee shop inside an auto department store. The owner explained that his father had run an auto repair shop for nearly 40 years, and he himself now works in the auto supply business. He wanted to combine the two to create a space that breaks away from the typical, sterile environment of a repair shop waiting area. His hope is that while customers wait for their cars to be serviced, the coffee in their hands can offer a unique flavor, and the desserts can bring the warmth of being handmade—thus, Nichifuku Enterprise was born.
