Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms in Tokyo have started to bloom. The indicator tree at Yasukuni Shrine in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, was found to have five or six blossoms open around 10 a.m. on the 21st. The blooming date is the same as last year but three days earlier than the April 24 prediction by Japan’s Wethermap.
Japan’s Wethermap has also updated its cherry blossom blooming forecast. For popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, full bloom is expected around April 1, 10, and 10 respectively, while Sapporo in Hokkaido is predicted to reach full bloom on May 5.
