Island paradise bathed in cherry blossom hues offers stunning new floral spectacle

With cherry blossom season in full swing, preparations for this annual floral extravaganza are underway across Japan. On March 4, Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, was enveloped in a wash of cherry blossom colors. This event—themed "Spring Paradise"—features not only real cherry blossoms but also cherry-hued lighting illuminating marine life, enhanced by cutting-edge digital light and sound effects to deliver a fresh take on blossom viewing.

Additionally, evening-only events include a night cherry blossom theme, where the Aqua Museum’s large 18-meter-high, 55-meter-wide rooftop serves as a screen for CG animations projected via light mapping. Through music and visuals, it depicts marine creatures transforming into blooming cherry blossoms. The main large pool features dolphin performances, with the animals putting on energetic shows to cherry blossom-themed songs under pink lighting.
