From Mickey, Castles to Winnie the Pooh: A Lazy Guide to 7 SOGO Outdoor Christmas Installations Across Taiwan

Christmas is just around the corner, and many businesses have started decorating with festive displays. In addition to the classic Christmas trees, this year SOGO has collaborated with Disney to create large-scale outdoor Christmas installations themed around iconic Disney characters at all 7 SOGO department store locations across Taiwan. From a giant gift box featuring Mickey and his friends, a Disney Princess castle, to the pumpkin carriage from Cinderella, these displays are expected to become popular IG photo spots.

This year’s Christmas installations are part of SOGO’s “Disney Magic Season” theme, featuring large-scale outdoor Christmas light displays. Across SOGO’s 7 major locations, aside from the bustling Mickey and Friends gift box at Zhongxiao Store, Fuxing Store features a dreamy Disney Princess Castle, while Dunhua Store welcomes Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage. Newborn City Store in Hsinchu showcases a Christmas setup with Winnie the Pooh and friends. Meanwhile, the southernmost Kaohsiung store features a 3.5-meter-tall Stitch figure. SOGO Tianshui Store and Zhongli Store greet visitors with their Disney Magic Season Christmas displays.

And it’s not just SOGO that’s serving up Insta-worthy Christmas displays—Shin Kong Mitsukoshi is also putting on a show. Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Store has rolled out a magical “Christmas Village,” bringing a strong festive vibe to Taipei without needing to fly to Europe. Snow falls on the hour every Saturday and Sunday, with the display running from now until January next year. Over in Taichung, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Zhonggang Store has set up a plaza featuring pink coffee cups, a Ferris wheel, and a pink gingerbread house—like a mini amusement park—plus Hello Kitty and Chibi Maruko-chan are there for fans to snap photos with.

Kaohsiung’s Dream Mall is brimming with Christmas cheer too. Last Christmas Eve, the mall was decked out in a Parisian theme, transforming the square into a romantic European scene. For the 2017 Christmas season, the official Sharing City theme is “Fashionable New York,” with a miniature Statue of Liberty and a dazzling Brooklyn Bridge bringing a slice of NYC to life right in the square.
