Two Taipei Attractions Win Big at Architecture’s Oscars, Bringing Glory to Taiwan

Having survived two fires, Zhenru Temple had fallen into disrepair, but this reconstruction and renovation have breathed new life into the historic building—like a phoenix reborn from the ashes. Especially noteworthy is the preservation and adaptive reuse of the original Japanese Buddhist architecture, which infuses this urban plaza with a unique cultural atmosphere, attracting many visitors who appreciate history and culture.
The bell tower’s counterpart, the Rotating Monks’ Quarters, has been leased and repurposed as a tea-drinking space.
Zhenru Temple Square is conveniently located near Ximen MRT Station. Heading north along Zhonghua Road, visitors can also explore historic sites such as the Red House, Futo Street Western-style Building, and North Gate, making it an ideal starting point for a cultural tour of Taipei. Qianshan Park is not far from Yangmingshan Park, but while Yangmingshan is famous for its annual flower festivals, Qianshan has seen fewer visitors over time and gradually declined. This renovation is expected to restore Qianshan Park’s former glory and provide the public with another excellent leisure and travel destination.
