Typhoon Haitang forms; Typhoon Nesat impacts all of Taiwan with work and school suspensions

Typhoon Nesat has intensified into a moderate typhoon and made landfall around 19:10 on the evening of the 29th near Su’ao, Yilan, affecting all of Taiwan’s land areas. Wind and rain have been intensifying since the evening.

[Update] Typhoon Nesat exited Taiwan from Zhunan, Miaoli at 22:30, and by 8:00 AM on the 30th, the typhoon’s circulation had left Taiwanese territory.

Additionally, the 10th typhoon, mild typhoon Haitang, has formed. A land and sea warning was issued at 17:30 on the 29th. It is located to the southwest of Taiwan over the sea and will begin affecting Taiwan’s land areas starting in the afternoon of July 30. There is a possibility of the Fujiwhara effect occurring between Haitang and Nesat, which may prolong the impact on Taiwan, so close attention is needed.

The mild typhoon Haitang is moving in a north-northeast to north direction, with its circulation having entered the Bashi Channel, initially posing threats to areas south of Nantou and Chiayi as well as Hualien-Taitung. The central and northern regions should be especially cautious during the evening to early morning.

Transportation updates:

◎ Taiwan High-Speed Rail
It is expected that normal full-line operations of the high-speed rail may resume from 12:00 noon on July 30 (inclusive), with all trains departing according to the schedule. If it is confirmed that additional services can be added earlier, an announcement will be madeon July 30before 9:00 AM as soon as possible.

◎ Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA)
In response to Typhoon Nesat, the TRAon July 30has the following train operation status: 1. Western Trunk Line (between Keelung and Changhua): Local trains will operate flexibly depending on weather conditions starting from 10:00; scheduled trains will gradually resume from 12:00. (1) Downbound: Scheduled trains will resume from Train 123 (departing Taipei at 12:00). (2) Upbound: Scheduled trains will resume from Train 122 (departing Kaohsiung at 12:00). 2. Eastern Trunk Line (between Shulin, Hualien, and Taitung): All levels of trains will gradually resume from 10:00. (a) North-Link Line (1) Downbound: Resumes from Train 218 (departing Taipei at 10:26). (2) Upbound: Resumes from Train 271 (departing Hualien at 10:13). (b) Hualien-Taitung Line (1) Downbound: Resumes from Train 410 (departing Hualien at 10:22). (2) Upbound: Resumes from Train 417 (departing Taitung at 11:20). 3. South-Link Line (between Xinzuoying and Taitung): All levels of trains will gradually resume from 10:00. (1) Downbound: Resumes from Train 307 (departing Xinzuoying at 10:25). (2) Upbound: Resumes from Train 372 (departing Taitung at 10:20). 4. Branch Lines: Pingxi, Neiwan, Liujia, Jiji, and Sha... lines will operate flexibly starting from 10:00 depending on weather conditions.
