Typhoon Haitang (international name: HAITANG), a mild tropical storm classified as No. 10, followed closely after Nesat left Taiwan. Around 16:40 on July 30, it made landfall near Fangkang, Pingtung, with its center overland northwest of Eluanbi. It continued moving north-northeast then north-northwest, with its storm circle having entered southern and southeastern parts of Taiwan, posing threats to areas south of Nantou and Chiayi, as well as Hualien-Taitung region.
Key Areas Affected by Typhoon Haitang
On land, Hualien, Taitung, Nantou, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung should remain on high alert and guard against strong winds and heavy rain.
Extremely Heavy Rain: Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County.
Heavy Rain: Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Taitung County.
As this typhoon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression, wind strength will likely diminish, but rainfall remains a serious concern. The impact on Taiwan on July 31 and whether school and work suspensions will be enforced require further prediction and announcements from the Ministry of Personnel Administration.
