Weekly Weather: Typhoon Moves Away, Heavy Rains Triggered by Southwest Monsoon

Typhoon Haitang (No. 10) lifted its land and sea warnings at 8:30 AM on the 31st, but the southwest monsoon it brought has led to abundant moisture and heavy rainfall in many central and southern counties and cities. The Pingtung area has experienced extremely heavy rain, while Tainan, Taitung, and mountainous areas of Kaohsiung also saw very heavy rain; on the 31st, Yunlin, Changhua, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, mountainous areas of Pingtung, and Kinmen still have a probability of heavy or extremely heavy rain; Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, Taitung, Penghu, Matsu, and mountainous areas of Hualien still have a chance of localized heavy rain. With continuous rainfall in recent days, please be cautious of landslides, falling rocks, mudflows, and flash floods. Coastal low-lying areas should guard against flooding, and avoid entering mountainous and riverine areas.

Moderate Typhoon Noru is located 1,460 kilometers south of Tokyo (1,950 kilometers east of Taipei), moving northwestward at a speed of 9 km/h, with maximum wind speeds near the center reaching 45 meters per second. Fans planning to travel to Japan soon should pay attention.

The outer circulation of Typhoon No. 10 will weaken by August 1, but the entire country still has a high probability of rain, especially in Tainan, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, which will have rainfall probabilities through Sunday. Central areas such as Changhua, Taichung, and Nantou will continue to experience afternoon thunderstorms during the day until Sunday. The northern region may see afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday, with cloudy weather on Sunday. The eastern region will also have afternoon thunderstorms throughout the week during the day. The entire country is generally experiencing high temperatures with frequent afternoon thunderstorms.
