To promote in-depth domestic tourism, enhance travel experiences, and develop distinctive local tourism programs, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration successfully launched the “Culinary Journey: Sun Moon Lake” initiative in 2017. To continue this “food and travel” trend, the administration is holding the “Culinary Journey: Sun Moon Lake – Food Special Exhibition” at the “Sun Moon Art Gallery” within the Sun Moon Visitor Center from now until March 30. The exhibition introduces various culinary specialties and includes a map of featured shops.
As the exhibition period coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday, the administration has specially designed a “Fun Food Crossword” game for visitors to start the year with good fortune. By picking up a flyer from volunteers in the Sun Moon Art Gallery and completing the crossword challenge, visitors can exchange for one beautifully designed “Culinary Journey: Sun Moon Lake” red envelope at any visitor center. Limited quantities are available and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
In July of last year, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration began offering culinary courses at National Chi Nan University, inviting experts such as Lin Liyun from Hungkuang University of Science and Technology, as well as internationally renowned chefs Hsu Kaitun, Hsu Suling, and state banquet chef Yeh Chengshen. With the theme “Culinary Journey at Sun Moon Lake – Elevating Local Gourmet Dishes,” they developed creative dishes.
The administration also mentored 16 classic hotels, restaurants, and food suppliers—including Haishen Temple of Classic Grand Hotel, Zhongzhen Rice Porridge at Meihéyuan, Butterfly Love Lemon Blossoms at Jesus Church, La Bello Beauty Ice Cream, Maosong Mushroom Farm, Sun Moon Star Dance, A-Rong Thao Ethnic Noodles, and Ruiju at Sun Moon Lake—to launch signature dishes one after another. Additionally, a gourmet pocketbook and two travel meal vouchers were introduced, allowing visitors to explore Sun Moon Lake through its flavors.
