World’s No. 14 – Chef André Chiang’s Singapore Restaurant Makes a Huge Leap in Rankings

Renowned as “the greatest chef in the Indian Ocean,” Chef André Chiang has achieved another milestone with his Singapore restaurant, Restaurant André, which has ranked 14th in the 2017 World’s 50 Best Restaurants list announced tonight — a significant jump from its 32nd place in 2016. The title of World’s Best Restaurant went to Eleven Madison Park in New York City, USA (which ranked 3rd last year).

Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca dropped from 1st place last year to 2nd, and then fell one more spot to 3rd this year. Meanwhile, Italy’s Osteria Francescana, which was ranked 1st last year, slipped to 2nd place this year. Eleven Madison Park moved up two spots from 3rd last year to claim the top honor.

Additionally, Bangkok’s Gaggan, which had claimed the top spot in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for three consecutive years, ranked 7th this year — a major rise from its 23rd place last year.
