Dance with the Wind and Enjoy the Sea Views: Hsinchu International Kite Festival Takes Off

Hsinchu is famous for its winds. The green grassy areas at Hsinchu Fishing Port often swarm with families flying kites on weekends, and many renowned kite designers have even test-flown their creations here. With the completion of the international kite competition venue, Hsinchu’s kite environment has been further elevated. The 2017 Hsinchu City International Kite Festival invites everyone to fly, make, and admire kites in the international kite arena, all while experiencing the charm of Hsinchu Fisherman’s Wharf.

The Hsinchu City Government has developed Hsinchu Fisherman’s Wharf, building an international kite competition venue, creating a family recreation area, and restoring the windbreak forest into a "Milkweed Butterfly Ecological Corridor." It now offers residents and visitors the perfect leisure spot to fly kites, enjoy fresh seafood, and take in the sea views, making it the most vibrant and attractive tourist and fishing port in northern Taiwan.

For the first time, international teams have been invited to join the celebration. Led by the Asian International Kite Federation, along with teams from the United States, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan, over 15 kite teams and a hundred kite enthusiasts will present spectacular aerial performances. The breathtaking sight of kites soaring above Hsinchu Fishing Port is sure to captivate and leave a lasting impression.

This year’s International Kite Festival will take place on August 26 and 27 at the newly completed international kite competition venue. In addition to kite flying, there will be entertainment and performances throughout the day—definitely an event not to be missed.
