Four Major Themes to Savor Coffee – 2017 Taipei International Coffee Festival

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has observed that member countries have celebrated Coffee Day on different dates over the years. In 2014, through member agreement, a unified “International Coffee Day” was established for coffee lovers worldwide, set on October 1st every year. To celebrate International Coffee Day, the 2017 Taipei International Coffee Festival showcased Taipei’s café culture soft power with a coffee market held at the main entrance of National Taiwan University from September 30th to October 1st.

This market, themed “The Wave of Taipei’s Coffee Culture,” is divided into a “Thematic Exhibition Area” and a “General Area.” The Thematic Exhibition Area is further split into four coffee trends: “Guardians of Japanese Tradition,” “Promoters of Italian Elegance,” “Pioneers of Boutique Foundations,” and “Integrators of the Boutique Wave.”

Taipei’s coffee culture has evolved with distinctive flavors in different eras. From traditional black coffee shops to the currently popular third-wave boutique culture, all continue to shine brightly and coexist harmoniously. The market will showcase the unique characteristics of Taipei cafés from various time periods in different zones, allowing the public to easily explore more about coffee culture and enjoy the aroma of coffee during a leisurely weekend afternoon.
