Seoul Lotte Department Store and Supermarket Closing Soon — Hurry Before Final Closure

By MOOK Travel Editorial Team

With the rise of low-cost tickets from budget airlines fueling tourism booms in Japan and South Korea, the Lotte Mart near Seoul Station has been one of the must-visit shopping destinations for many travelers. However, Lotte Group recently announced that due to lease-related reasons, Lotte Mart will cease operations by the end of the year, marking the loss of another Korean tourist landmark. Travelers eager to visit should seize the opportunity while they can.

Similarly, Lotte Department Store in Yeongdeungpo, established in 1991, offers a wide range of options including food, cosmetics, clothing, and daily necessities. It has been a popular shopping spot for locals and a must-visit destination for tourists alike, but it will also close at the end of the year due to lease issues.

Both Lotte Department Store in Yeongdeungpo and Lotte Mart in Seoul Station are located on state-owned land. This year, the South Korean government decided not to renew their leases, with plans to reclaim the land as state property by the end of the year at the earliest. This means that two major shopping landmarks in Seoul will be closing their doors by year's end.
