Stay in the World’s Most Beautiful Bookstore’s First Tsutaya Apartment—A Must-Add to Every Literary Traveler’s List

Recently dubbed the world’s most beautiful, Tsutaya Books has not only ignited a new passion for reading but also branched out into various business sectors. After the debut of the bookstore-style capsule hotel BOOK AND BED TOKYO in 2015, Tsutaya has now unveiled its all-new 24-hour “Tsutaya Book Apartment” in Shinjuku. Conceptualized around the cozy feel of a living room, it combines a bookstore, co-working space, and youth hostel, completely redefining traditional bookstore operations.

The Tsutaya Book Apartment spans three floors, with the overall space centered around books and magazines—boasting a collection of about 20,000 volumes. Beyond its bookstore function, the fourth floor houses a co-working space equipped with desks, power outlets, iPads, iMacs, and printers. The fifth floor is a shared space for both men and women, designed with nature and camping themes where guests can enjoy a comfortable reading experience. Meanwhile, the sixth floor is exclusively for women, featuring a tatami-mat-style Japanese space, complete with massage chairs and a vanity area.

The apartment is strategically located in Tokyo’s bustling Shinjuku district, offering readers a quiet and comfortable space to read amid the urban hustle. Guests first choose their desired length of stay, with pricing set at 500 yen per hour per person (including coffee beverage). Some facilities—including the women’s floor, private rest spaces, work areas, showers, and lounge wear—are available for an additional fee.
