Happy Yilan Year: 360 dyed fabrics decorate the park

Entering its 25th year, the Happy Yilan Year event is being held at the Zhongxing Cultural and Creative Park in Wujie Township for the first time. The Yilan County Government has united the strength of various communities, with 12 communities from 12 townships and cities creating 360 vibrant dyed fabrics that will be the highlight of the Happy Yilan Year decorations.

Communities participating in the fabric dyeing include Neicheng Community in Yuanshan Township, Jinyue Community in Nanao Township, Sitagis in Datong Township, Qizhang Community in Yilan City, Shulin Community in Luodong Township, Dayi Community in Sanyi Township, Meihua Community in Dongshan Township, Houpi Community in Zhuangwei Township, Longtan Community in Jiaoxi Township, Chengxi Community in Toucheng Township, Fude Community in Su'ao Township, and Dazhong Community in Wujie Township.

Today (the 27th), Yilan County Acting Magistrate Chen Jinde visited Chengxi Community in Toucheng Township to DIY dyed fabrics together with local residents. The community collected fallen leaves from the large-leaved machilus tree, tied plain cloth with cotton thread, then boiled the cloth and leaves together. Once the cotton threads were removed, the dyed fabric results were revealed.

Seeing the finished brown-dyed fabrics, Chen Jinde praised them, saying they gave him a feeling of “being full of warmth.” He noted that the fabrics from the 12 townships and cities appearing in the park symbolize the participation of every community. Using natural dyeing methods holds significance, and he also welcomed fellow residents to join in the Happy Yilan Year celebrations.
