A sonic wave sweeps across the North Coast ! The Sea Music Festival kicks off on the 6th for a whole month

Summer means heading to the beach ! It’s not just about surfing and checking out the hotties — it’s also about enjoying the charm of music blended with the sound of waves. The North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (hereinafter referred to as the North Coast Administration) holds the “Sea Music Festival” every year. This year, the event will feature an extended duration and larger spatial scale. In addition to the usual Shallow Water Bay and Yehliu, Baisha Bay has been added, covering the entire North Coast area for a full month !

This year, the North Coast Administration has themed the event around “2013 Happy North Coast – Encountering the Four Seasons 'Romantic Style’”, planning multiple themed activities such as Guanyin Eagle Watching, Wedding Photo Opportunities, Marathon Photography Event, and the Sea Music Festival. Chen Meixiu, head of the North Coast Administration, said: “This year is different from previous ones. We’ve significantly extended the time and space of the activities. Music events will be held at Baisha Bay, Shallow Water Bay, and Yehliu, featuring diverse music styles, bringing music festivals to every spot where the sea can be seen.”

The most special of all is the grand finale, the Yehliu Night. Drawing inspiration from Europe’s style of holding open-air vocal concerts in historic sites and national parks, the North Coast Administration aims to offer a gourmet of bel canto. An international musical feast will be held in the Yehliu GeoPark. In addition to inviting Gao Huizhen and Ji Xiaojun, the event will also feature Wang Dian, the first-prize male tenor of the Singapore Vocal Competition, and the Lexion Chamber Orchestra performing with brass and string instruments. Both events are ticketed, with a price of NT$1,000 per ticket. Due to venue limitations, only 100 people are allowed per session, with a total of 200 attendees. Proceeds will be donated to local charitable organizations.

Additionally, this year marks the first-ever month-long music event, starting this weekend. The Baisha Bay Night on July 6 and 7 will kick things off, featuring performances by college bands and music clubs, including those from National Taiwan Ocean University, St. John’s University, Providence University Dance Club, Taipei City University of Science and Technology, Tamkang University, and Taipei College of Maritime Technology. With rich performance experience and awards under their belts, they’ll usher in the music festival with vibrant summer tunes.

Following that, the Shallow Water Bay Nights will take place on July 19, 20, and 26 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, serving as warm-up events. Local North Coast singers, street performers, and pop bands will take turns performing, such as Talkban Band, Jinxing Band, and Rosy Rose Red Band, heating up the atmosphere with an impressive lineup. Then, on July 27, the main Shallow Water Bay Night event will launch with a new wave of rock, featuring popular singers Xiao Yu, Zhuo Yifeng, and Angel’s Rock.

Meanwhile, the Yehliu Night, themed as a gourmet of bel canto, will be held on August 2 and 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. This international-level musical feast, set against the backdrop of a world-renowned geo park, offers limited seating as a heartfelt tribute to nature. Tickets go on presale starting July 10. The public can purchase them via the Yehliu GeoPark website or at the park’s ticket office.
