Powerful indigenous vocals take turns to shine at the "Original POWER Music Festival" in Zhongli

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of "August 1st Indigenous Peoples' Day," Zhongli District Office in Taoyuan County will hold the "Original POWER Music Festival" at Zhongzheng Park at 6:00 PM on July 28. The event will feature performances by multiple indigenous singers, including powerhouse vocalist A-Lin, Golden Melody Award-winning singer Ilid Kaolo, Golden Melody Award-winning singer Wang Hong-en, the band Power Station, MATZKA, and others.

Starting at 5:30 PM on the day of the concert, the venue surroundings will offer free roast suckling pig, limited-edition ice cream, tasting of new Taiwan Beer products, complimentary drinks galore, as well as a creative market featuring indigenous handicrafts and more. Additionally, the organizers will kick off the evening with a call for people of all ethnic groups to don traditional indigenous attire and perform the Harvest Dance to open the music event, followed by a lineup of indigenous singers and bands taking turns to perform.

In the past, the government and public referred to indigenous peoples as "mountain compatriots." After years of efforts by indigenous friends to advocate for change, August 1st was officially "renamed" and enshrined in the Constitution as "Indigenous Peoples' Day" on August 1, 1994. Therefore, every August 1st is now celebrated as Indigenous Peoples' Memorial Day.

Zhongli District Office stated that this year marks the second time Zhongli has hosted an indigenous music concert, aiming to inject new vitality into indigenous music culture, foster unity among the indigenous community, and most importantly, present audiences with an authentic and traditional indigenous evening performance.
