Yellow "Little" Duck Makes Early Debut

The yellow "little" duck makes an early debut！The real-life yellow rubber duck will be displayed at Kaohsiung’s Glory Pier in mid-September. The Kaohsiung City Government has specially prepared a 10:1 "miniature" version of the duck, which will appear at the city’s Sihwei Center after September 2. Meanwhile, the original 18-meter-tall duck may also begin testing earlier, as early as September 12, at Glory Pier.

The city government stated that artist Florentijn Hofman places great emphasis on the production methods and process of the yellow duck. To meet Hofman’s standards, the contractor first created an 180-centimeter-tall model, one-tenth the size of the original. Once the stitching method was confirmed to be correct, they expedited the production of the full-sized duck. After completing the "miniature" version, the city government decided to let the public see the duck earlier.

Although much smaller than the original, the craftsmanship of the miniature duck is still meticulous. The entire duck is sewn together from 240 pieces of plastic fabric, with every part and detail proportionally scaled down from the original. The manufacturer noted that the most challenging parts to make were the duck’s mouth and neck—the beak needed to be plump, the bill slightly upturned, and the neck’s curve smooth and fluid. After careful stitching by the staff, the final product met Hofman’s requirements.
