Admire Sun Moon Lake in 3D: This year, a hot air balloon craze has swept across Taiwan. Starting September 9, visitors can also take a ride on a hot air balloon hovering about 33 meters (approximately 11 stories) above the ground to enjoy breathtaking aerial views of Sun Moon Lake. The entire experience lasts around 7 to 10 minutes and costs NT$500. Coinciding with the Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Culture Festival, travelers can also enjoy a free taste of the fragrant Sun Moon Lake black tea.

The hot air balloon rides in Sun Moon Lake can accommodate about eight passengers at a time. Taking into account wind conditions and air stability, flights take off twice daily—two hours before sunrise and two hours before sunset. Operators say that on clear days, passengers can witness the sunrise at dawn and the sunset glow in the evening. The panoramic view of the scenic areas around the Sun Moon Lake Xiangshan Visitor Center from high above offers a unique and memorable experience.

The Yuchi Township Office stated that besides taking a hot air balloon ride, visitors should not miss the annual highlight of Sun Moon Lake tourism—the “Sun Moon Lake Black Tea Culture Festival.” Starting in October, the festival will combine tea tasting, sales, and cultural performances. There are many ways to explore Sun Moon Lake: visitors can take a cable car or cruise around the lake, cycle along Taiwan’s most beautiful bike path, and in the future, may even have the chance to take a helicopter tour over the lake to experience its beauty from even more unique perspectives.
