It’s been ages since I last visited Muzha. I remember my previous trip was to check out the then weekend-only Ruins Coffee Roasters — the lively, almost fair-like scene back then remains vivid in my memory, and it truly brought a warm coffee culture to the Muzha area.
Not far away, another café opened this month, also sparking curiosity with its name: “You Behind.” It offers a spacious, light industrial American-style space, complete with a full HIGH CUT design wall. The café uses beans roasted by a pour-over champion to serve Italian coffee, pour-over coffee, tea, and several handmade desserts.

If you’re coming from downtown Taipei, it’s recommended to take bus no. 236 or others from outside Wanfang Hospital Station — it takes about 8–10 minutes to reach You Behind Café. Trial operations began in November. The lofty space features mostly 2–3 person tables and some bar seating.

I love the full HIGH CUT paperzine wall here — its minimalist decor idea brings a uniquely designed atmosphere to the space.

I’ve been drinking coffee way too often lately, so today I opted for a pot of comforting peach oolong tea. When brewed, it gives off a sweet peach aroma. Each pot uses two tea bags. On this cool day, its refreshing sweetness paired nicely with slightly sweet desserts, offering a pleasant transition between different kinds of sweetness.

This place operates semi-self-service without service charges. You decide what you want and then order and pay at the counter. The self-serve water even has lime and apple slices in it. At checkout, the staff asked whether we wanted medium or dark roast beans for our latte — J chose the medium roast he usually prefers. It was slightly warm when served, with a mild overall coffee flavor, a touch of bitterness, and not-so-prominent milk aroma. I would’ve preferred both flavors to be a bit richer.

The adorable lemon tart is topped with fresh lemon slices, giving it a cute appearance. I tried a small piece — the lemon filling is slightly tangy, and you can squeeze in a bit more lemon juice to intensify the sourness. The overall sweetness is on the higher side, making it a bit cloying. Also, I felt the crust was a bit minimal — personally, I’d prefer more of that crisp texture.

During the trial period, plain pancakes come with free added whipped cream and maple syrup. The batter itself was nothing special, but the addition of whipped cream and maple syrup made it much better. The taste is simple yet delightful. It’s also a great combination with the rich aroma of the coffee, making it one of my favorite parts of the meal.

You Behind Café is still in its trial phase. Although the wait time for food was a bit longer — around 30–40 minutes — and the menu had fewer items than we expected, the uncrowded environment was pleasant and comfortable. It also unexpectedly gave off the vibe of a quirky IKEA showroom, with many furnishings and decorations from the Swedish brand.
The name “You Behind” also makes every check-in and mention fun — it was actually an inspired idea from an impromptu gathering among the owner and friends.
“Where are you now?” “I’m behind you.” It may sound a bit confusing at first, but it’s also a highly creative café name.
