The “price hike” alarm is ringing！First increase in 18 years — Yehliu Geopark ticket prices double

Everything really is going up in price！Located in Wanli District, New Taipei City, Yehliu Geopark is a famous tourist attraction in northern Taiwan that always draws both domestic and international visitors. However, starting January 1, 2014, the full admission fee at Yehliu Geopark will be raised to NT$80, while the half-price ticket will be adjusted to NT$40 — marking the first price increase in 18 years.

Yehliu Geopark commissioned Aletheia University to conduct a survey, which ultimately led to the proposed fare hike. The original full fare of NT$50 has been adjusted to NT$80, and the half-price ticket of NT$25 has increased to NT$40 — nearly doubling the cost. In fact, Yehliu Geopark had considered raising ticket prices for several years, and ultimately decided that the current full fare no longer reflected market conditions, prompting the adjustment.

Since 2002, Yehliu Scenic Area has been included within the scope of the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area, and visitor numbers have risen year by year. As of 2012, the number of visitors reached 2.69 million. However, the Tourism Bureau emphasized that along with the fare adjustment, service quality will also be improved, including six initiatives such as free park entry for children under 12 during a three-month summer period and the addition of a large touch-screen interactive interpretive system.
