The Yellow Duck is set to make its debut at Houhu Pond in Xinzhuang, Taoyuan, tomorrow (the 26th). Today’s press conference offered an early sneak peek, drawing thousands of visitors despite strong winds, all eager to catch their first glimpse of the duck. Regarding the “three lines” appearing on the duck’s face, Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Zhiyang stated, “Hofmann is actually happy about the three lines, saying they give a very natural look.”

The Yellow Duck will officially launch at Houhu Pond in Xinzhuang tomorrow (the 26th), as part of the “2013 Taoyuan Land Art Festival” featuring works by 10 artists. Driving around the entire venue takes about an hour, while walking the whole site could easily take an afternoon. Many were surprised upon seeing the new exhibition location at Houhu Pond, exclaiming, “It’s just a small pond.”

To capture the full view of the duck, visitors must step back to the plaza in front to get the entire head in the frame. However, during photography, some may notice three to five power lines appearing on the duck’s head. In response, Taoyuan County Magistrate Wu Zhiyang told reporters that they never considered removing the wires for aesthetic reasons. “Hofmann thinks those power lines are natural and don’t affect the duck’s presence.”

The creator of the Yellow Duck, Florentijn Hofmann, said that showcasing the duck in Xinzhuang is a new experience and hopes more people will get to know the scenery of the area. The “Taoyuan Land Art Festival” also invited art critic Lu Rongzhi, South Korean artist Choi Jeonghwa, Dutch artist Hofmann, and local domestic artists to kick off the inaugural Taoyuan County Land Square Art Festival.
