Australian cycling challenge in desert ends in tragedy: HowToTrip beauty stewardess and writer Lin Yaruo dies

Lin Yaruo, a former China Airlines flight attendant and popular travel writer, tragically died after being hit by a tourist bus while cycling in Australia. Australian diplomatic personnel have confirmed the news, and her parents are currently en route to Australia to handle the aftermath, expected to arrive at the accident site on the 31st.

The well-known travel writer Lin Yaruo departed for Australia on October 20th, planning to cycle solo through the Australian desert. On the eve of her departure, Lin Yaruo posted on her Facebook fan page, sharing a photo from a 2009 magazine: “If I get eaten by desert animals while camping alone in the Australian desert, or die from a poisonous spider bite, or get hit by a car, or die of thirst, and something unfortunate happens, at least you all can still see this treasured 2009 FHM magazine shoot!”

Lin Yaruo began her desert cycling journey in Australia on the 26th. That day, she posted on her fan page: “With 11,750 ml of water, lots of food, a tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat, I’m starting my desert ride today. My goal is 100 km—if I don’t make it, I’ll camp by the roadside. Good luck to me. For the next few days, my phone will be out of signal—please pray for me.”

At 9:15 PM on the 27th, on the Lasseter Hwy, 11 km east of Mt Ebenezer, news emerged of an Asian woman being fatally struck by a tourist bus. Australian diplomatic personnel later confirmed the deceased was Lin Yaruo.

It is understood that Lin Yaruo’s parents are currently on their way to Australia to handle the aftermath, arriving in Sydney on the 30th and proceeding to the accident site in Alice Springs on the 31st. Australian diplomatic authorities have also stated they will assist in handling related matters. Many of Lin Yaruo’s fans expressed sorrow upon hearing the news, with some unable to help responding to her pre-departure post: “Why be such a jinx to yourself?”
