Unprecedented: Taoyuan’s landscape attraction “Yellow Rubber Duck” exploded into “duck pieces” this morning, the 1st of the month. Chen Rong-an, General Manager of Atmosphere Venture Co., Ltd., the company responsible for making the Yellow Rubber Duck, said after inspecting the duck on-site: “It can definitely be repaired!”

The Taoyuan County Cultural Affairs Bureau issued a statement noting that due to the magnitude 6.3 earthquake that struck Taiwan at 8:02 PM on October 31, the Xinyi area experienced its first power outage starting at 2:00 AM, followed by two more outages, affecting the power supply to the Duck Exhibition Area. This caused the duck to deflate. After emergency repairs, by 8:30 AM on the 1st, nearly 80% of the inflation had been completed. However, during the on-site inflation process, sudden gusts of wind averaging 7–8 on the Beaufort scale (with gusts reaching level 9) suddenly hit, resulting in damage to the entire duck structure. The exhibit has now been temporarily suspended. The organizers subsequently announced on their official website that the “Yellow Rubber Duck Exhibition Area” would be closed today.

Chen Rong-an, General Manager of Atmosphere Venture Co., the company currently inspecting the Yellow Rubber Duck on-site, stated that they are still assessing the condition of the duck but believes it can definitely be repaired.
