A great winter escape: The Little Liuqiu Marine Pastoral Series kicks off

Looking for a cozy winter getaway? Head to Little Liuqiu (Liuqiu Island)! Pingtung County Government has launched the Little Liuqiu Marine Pastoral Series, kicking off with a driftwood carving competition — and it’s already in full swing. The series features a variety of activities, including food promotions, live music performances, and island cycling tours. Additionally, opening and closing night galas will be held on the evenings of the 9th and 16th, featuring performances by Golden Melody Award-winning artist Huang Fei and the Best Band winner Monkey Pilot, along with a spectacular offshore fireworks show.

Little Liuqiu is the only area in Taiwan unaffected by the northeastern monsoon, making it a great winter travel destination. According to statistics from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the island welcomed 360,000 visitors last year, and organizers hope this winter tourism push will help Little Liuqiu set a new record, reaching 400,000 visitors.

The opening concert on the 9th will feature a theme of “Taiwanese Golden Melody Night,” while the closing concert on the 16th will be themed “Harbor Rock Night,” with Golden Melody Award-winning artist Huang Fei and Best Band winner Monkey Pilot headlining the respective nights. Additionally, after the headline performances, both the opening and closing nights will feature dazzling offshore fireworks displays.

The kayak race will take place on the 9th, followed by an island cycling tour on the 16th. Throughout the event period from the 9th to the 16th, there will also be food promotions, street performances, and woodcarving exhibitions, aiming to offer visitors a delightful and locally immersive winter escape on Little Liuqiu.
