The final day still had a "leak" — the Taoyuan yellow duck says goodbye

The eventful Taoyuan yellow duck officially said goodbye to Taoyuan yesterday (10th) evening under the cheers of nearly ten thousand spectators. Over the 16-day exhibition, it attracted around 2.4 million visitors. Even on its final day, there was a “leak” incident where the duck’s body tilted suddenly. Some visitors joked that it must be “the little duck didn’t want to say goodbye.” Starting December 21st, the duck will be hosted by Keelung, where the public can view a duck that “can rotate 360 degrees.”

At 3 p.m. on the 10th, the county government arranged for kindergarten children to dress up in “duck costumes” and perform the Duck Dance and Ladybug Dance to bid farewell to the duck. The deflation process began at 3:30 p.m., and within 10 minutes, the duck turned into a piece of “eggshell.” The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that this year’s Land Art Festival attracted over 2.4 million visitors, generating an estimated NT$1 billion in business for Xinzhuang, while also helping more people learn about the local pond culture.

The journey of the Taoyuan duck has been quite rough. During its 16-day exhibition, it was absent for six days. It even had to “self-destruct” at one point, prompting the arrival of the Kaohsiung duck to stand in, making it the first “land duck.” On the morning of the final exhibition day, the duck deflated temporarily due to the blower intake being clogged by mosquito carcasses. Fortunately, it was “resuscitated” successfully, allowing the duck to say goodbye to the public with its most adorable look.

After leaving Taoyuan, the duck will make its way to Keelung starting December 21st. To welcome this “distinguished guest,” the organizers have specially built a large floating platform that rotates 360 degrees. The duck will rotate in tune with music melodies. Before the end of November, 100,000 copies of the “Yellow Duck Tourism Passport” will also be issued, featuring various merchant discounts and introductions to local tourist attractions.
