There are so many stinky tofu stalls in Raohe Night Market,
and I still haven’t tried them all yet,
but so far, my favorite is the first stall you see when entering from the south side near Songmen on Jilong Road,
and then there’s this one—“Xiagang Famous Peng Stinky Tofu,” which I’m introducing in this article.
The flavors of these two stalls are both unique and unforgettable in their own ways.

This is the entrance at Songmen. See the yellow sign reading “Stinky Tofu” to the right of the information desk?
That’s another one of my favorite stalls, which I highly recommend.

“Xiagang Famous Peng Stinky Tofu” is quite well-known and has even been featured in the media. But I didn’t come here because it’s famous—I came because it’s genuinely delicious ♥ ♥ ♥
This stall is located roughly in the middle of Raohe Night Market, right next to the Songshan Market sign. If you can’t find it, just look for the sign.
The stall looks small, with only about 15 seats, but there are also seats inside Songshan Market.
So if you want to eat here, just go ahead—there will always be a seat eventually. Otherwise, wait a bit, and a spot will open up soon.
If you’re getting takeout, just wait in the takeout area.

Each table has a menu you can look at. Once you’ve decided, you can order and pay the staff.
But when we went, the staff often told us to pay after we’d finished eating. It depends on what the staff says—just remember to pay, haha XD
The must-order dish is, of course, the Xiagang Crispy Skin Stinky Tofu.
Even vegetarians can enjoy the stinky tofu here—the chili sauce is vegetarian too. How thoughtful~

Xiagang Famous Peng Stinky Tofu 45 NTD / serving
Look at the skin of the stinky tofu—isn’t it just bubbling with perfection?
Although there are only three pieces per serving, they’re bigger than those at other places, so it doesn’t feel like you’re getting less value.
The stinky tofu is sprinkled with cilantro, served with pickled vegetables, and placed on a steaming hot plate. Even when the place is crowded, you won’t have to wait too long.

The pickled vegetables from Xiagang Famous Peng Stinky Tofu are a bit sweeter and lack a bit of tanginess—adding more acidity would make them even better.
((Sounds like I’m talking like a pregnant woman craving sour food—though I guess I do kind of look the part lol))

How can you have stinky tofu without chili? No need for long words—grab a spoonful right away.
The chili itself smells amazing, and the spice level is just right. Even those who can’t handle spicy food can dip a little bit to go with it.

The outer skin of Xiagang Famous Peng’s stinky tofu is super crispy and flaky—it’s a thin layer of crispiness, not the thick kind of crispy skin.
The tofu also absorbs the fragrant broth, and thanks to the broth, your mouth won’t feel overly dry after eating.
The broth is scalding hot, but I just can't resist the aroma — I want to eat it right away!
Even though the crowds at Raohe Street Tourist Night Market were insanely packed and it was stiflingly hot and crowded,
I still had to come and have a plate of crispy, tender, and juicy Xiagang Mingpeng Stinky Tofu. It's refreshing in the heart but stinky in the mouth — that’s the magic of Taiwanese stinky tofu!
