Beware of being denied entry: Turkey’s e-visa is only valid for entry at three local airports

Can you be denied entry abroad even with a visa? Since May 2013, Turkey has announced that nationals of the Republic of China can apply for a 30-day e-visa for each tourist visit, which is highly beneficial. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds travelers that although the e-visa saves money, it is important to note that the Turkish e-visa is only applicable for entry through three designated airports in the country.

Most people assume that as long as they have a visa for a foreign country, they can freely enter and exit any airport in that country within the permitted time. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the e-visa service launched by Turkey in May this year is only valid for entry through “Esenboga Airport” in the capital Ankara, “Ataturk Airport” and “Sabiha Gokcen Airport” in Istanbul. Travelers who do not enter through the designated airports will be forced to leave on their original flight.

Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds travelers planning to visit Turkey with an e-visa to pay special attention to the arrival airport to avoid disappointment.
