Dubai wins bid to host Expo 2020 — schools declare holiday to celebrate!

After a series of intense rounds of voting, the host city for Expo 2020 has been officially awarded to Dubai. On the 27th, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), following its final vote in Paris, announced that "the Pearl of the Middle East" — Dubai — secured support from 116 countries, defeating Brazil, Russia, and Turkey to win the right to host Expo 2020.

When the exciting news reached Dubai, the entire city was immediately engulfed in a festive atmosphere of celebration. The world’s tallest building, the "Burj Khalifa," also lit up the night sky with a dazzling fireworks display to commemorate this proud and memorable day. Dubai will become the first city in the Middle East to host a World Expo.

Depika, an Indian student born in Dubai who has witnessed the city's journey to prosperity firsthand, excitedly said she is proud to live in this city of the future. Dubai authorities also announced that “schools will be closed tomorrow!” in celebration of winning the Expo bid.

The Expo 2020 site is expected to be located between Dubai International Airport and the capital city of Abu Dhabi, covering an area of approximately 438 hectares. (News source: Central News Agency)
