So beautiful！ The 3D Light Show at the Christmas Festival in Wanjin, Pingtung – A dynamic interplay of light beams at night

Not only does New Taipei City have a Christmas tree — southern Taiwan also boasts a breathtaking display of the Virgin Mary’s radiant Christmas spirit. The 3D Light Show at the Pingtung Wanjin Christmas Festival transforms the Wanjin Basilica into a series of touching scenes through the interweaving and shifting 3D beams from the projectors. The Virgin Mary’s compassion, the joy of Jesus’ birth, and the festive cheer of Christmas all elicit continuous exclamations of awe from visitors. This Christmas light show will run from today until Christmas Eve, with two shows each Saturday and Sunday.

The Wanjin Christmas Festival is entering its third year. This year, Pingtung County Government is pioneering the trend in southern Taiwan by innovatively introducing a 3D light show. The show is divided into three acts: The Descent of Holy Light, The Virgin Mary’s Loving Embrace of Wanjin, and The Dream Factory of the Basilica, using light art to present Catholic culture and the joyful Christmas atmosphere. With every change in light and shadow, the Wanjin Basilica morphs into the sacred manger of Jesus’ birth, then into a fluttering burst of colorful roses, and then into a glass-art cathedral.

The Tourism and Communications Department stated that originally there were only six light show performances, but thanks to the generosity of Xiongji Company, additional shows have been added as a gift to the local community. Starting now, there will be two light shows each Saturday and Sunday, at 7:30 PM and 7:50 PM. On December 14 and 15, the performances will be 6 minutes long; on December 21, 22, and 23, the three days leading up to Christmas Eve, the shows will be extended to 10-minute versions. On Christmas Eve, December 24, the show will begin at 11:50 PM. On December 21 and 24, performances will also feature live music by the Southern Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, accompanying everyone in welcoming Christmas.
