Okinawa is getting more expensive！ A “Passenger Service Facility Charge” will be implemented starting February 2014

Traveling to Okinawa to enjoy the ocean views and sightsee will become more expensive！ Naha Airport in Okinawa, Japan, will begin charging an international “Passenger Service Facility Charge” for departing and transit passengers. Starting February 2014, all passengers—regardless of whether they are adults or children—will be charged 1,000 yen (approximately NT$287) and 500 yen (approximately NT$144), respectively..

The “Passenger Service Facility Charge” will be collected at the time of ticket issuance. Infants occupying a seat will be treated as children and charged the child fee of 500 yen (approximately NT$144). If a child is traveling on an adult fare, they will be treated as an adult and charged the adult fee of 1,000 yen (approximately NT$287).

For transit passengers, the “Passenger Service Facility Charge” will be applied to all, including those with same-day connections.

According to the Kansai International Airport official website, the purpose of the “Passenger Facility Charge” is to cover costs related to terminal management, baggage carts, and passenger guidance services.
