Boasting the world’s largest Christmas tree, the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka stands tall.

Catching the tail end of Christmas season, the world’s largest Christmas tree — viewable only at this time of year — appears once again this year in the first-floor plaza of the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka, known as the “Arch of the Future.”

Standing at 27 meters high and decorated with over 100,000 lights, the Christmas tree at the Umeda Sky Building was traditionally ranked alongside the tree at Rockefeller Center in New York’s Times Square as one of the world’s largest. Nearby, the small Christmas market — the “Osaka German Christmas Market” — offers a variety of holiday ornaments. On this bone-chilling Christmas Eve, it attracts visitors who stop to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

%Although it may not have an especially grand origin story, the atmosphere here is just like that in Germany, where, in addition to the giant Christmas tree, there are also stalls selling sausages, pretzels, and other festive foods, along with carols playing softly in the background, creating a warm ambiance despite the cold. The dazzling Christmas tree leaves a deep impression on all who see it.
