Yellow Rubber Duck Puts on Another Bath Show – Black-and-White Hero Turns Tricolor Duck

After the yellow rubber duck in Keelung turned into a dirty duck, the exhibition organizers finally decided to give it a bath on the 28th. Unfortunately, the job was so huge that only one side was cleaned. The public joked that the duck had become a “black-and-white hero.” On the 29th, they gave the duck another bath. In the morning, they spent two hours scrubbing the middle part. As a result, compared to the previous day, the clean right half darkened again, the middle became bright, and the unwashed parts remained dirty — turning the duck into three colors: black, gray, and yellow.

On the 28th, the yellow rubber duck put on its second bath show using the eco-friendly cleaner “Simple Green.” Despite turning into a black-and-white hero, its popularity remained undiminished, with people willing to brave the rain just for a group photo with the duck.

However, the cleaning job couldn’t be done halfway. Work resumed an hour and a half later today, starting at 9:30 AM. Staff brought in ropes and began washing from the left side of the duck’s head. Its beak was covered in white foam, but after nearly two hours of scrubbing, the duck ended up with three colors: black, gray, and yellow.

It might be due to the diesel smoke emitted by ships near Keelung Harbor. The freshly washed parts of the yellow duck were bright and shiny, but the areas cleaned the previous day may have absorbed dusty grime and turned dull. Coupled with the unwashed left half, the yellow duck has become a three-layered duck. It seems the organizing team still needs to come up with more solutions. One woman said, “Now I understand why Hofmann didn’t want to come — because Keelung is so dirty. It used to be a happy little duck, but now it looks so sad.”

But even so, visitors’ enthusiasm hasn’t waned — in fact, the crowds are growing. That’s because the front side of the duck has been cleaned, leaving only the rear still unwashed. After two days of the bath show, the duck’s front side is now glowing and greeting everyone, looking as if it has regained its vitality. Its popularity has also risen. Even though it kept raining in Keelung with temperatures dropping to just 11°C, the crowd at Ocean Plaza gradually grew.

Originally, the duck’s bath was scheduled to be completed within two hours on Saturday the 28th. But the duck’s huge size, coupled with Keelung’s fluctuating weather, meant they had to add an extra day on Sunday. Initially, two people were cleaning too slowly, so a third was added to help, hoping to restore the yellow duck’s former cute appearance.
