The main lantern "Soaring Dragon Steed" of the Taiwan Lantern Festival makes its debut; the "super cute horse" lantern is highly eye-catching

The 2014 Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held from February 14 to 23, with the official lighting ceremony at 7:00 PM on February 14 at Zhongxing New Village, Nantou County. This year’s main lantern, named "Soaring Dragon Steed" by Professor Zeng Yongyi from Shih Hsin University, stands at a record height of 23 meters and weighs approximately 30 metric tons. Its design is inspired by the ancient famous steed "Yanqi Horse," depicted as ascending Yushan Mountain.
This year’s main lantern also emphasizes optics, technology, and eco-friendly green energy, constructed with over 200,000 LED bulbs. It also features the highest number of lighting circuits ever—5,120.

Tourism Bureau Director General Xie Weijun stated that this year marks the 25th edition of the Taiwan Lantern Festival, which is not only the largest tourism event in Taiwan but is also recognized by international media as one of the world’s top festivals. In addition to the main lantern "Soaring Dragon Steed," there will be many other adorable lantern designs. The festival will also feature seamless Wi-Fi coverage, allowing visitors to take photos with the lanterns and share their joy online.

The most popular item among children at the lantern festival is the mini lantern. This year’s design is the adorable "super cute horse." Designer Lin Jiawei explained that to reflect Nantou’s beautiful landscapes and the upcoming Western Valentine’s Day, elements such as blue skies, white clouds, rainbows, and hearts were incorporated into the design.

Additionally, the joints of the super cute horse’s legs are specially designed—they can swing back and forth and can also be secured with clasps, allowing children to take the lantern for walks, enhancing interaction. According to the organizers, the eye-catching "super cute horse" mini lanterns are expected to be distributed starting February 13.
