Another collapse: Daye Travel Agency takes deposits then vanishes, leaving 20 travelers stranded

The Daye Travel Agency in Taoyuan City has reportedly run into financial difficulties. Travelers have filed complaints with the Tourism Bureau, stating that after paying deposits for flight tickets, the agency disappeared. Investigations revealed that the agency’s operator bounced checks totaling over NT$7 million. The Tourism Bureau has ordered the agency to cease operations, estimating that around 20 travelers have been affected, with combined losses of over NT$200,000.

According to reports from various media outlets, the Daye Travel Agency in Taoyuan City was recently reported to the Tourism Bureau by travelers who booked flights through the agency and paid deposits, only to find that the agency could no longer be contacted, disrupting their travel plans. The Tourism Bureau urgently investigated and found that the agency had vacated its premises, with the landlord also confirming that the travel agency was planning to terminate the lease.

The Tourism Bureau confirmed that the Daye Travel Agency in Taoyuan took deposits from more than 20 travelers before the operator absconded with the money. It was found that the operator had recently bounced checks worth over NT$7 million, facing financial difficulties and unable to maintain normal travel transactions. In accordance with Articles 36 and 38 of the Consumer Protection Act, the Tourism Bureau has ordered the Daye Travel Agency to cease operations immediately, and to replenish the travel industry bond of NT$1.5 million. Failure to do so will result in the revocation of the agency’s travel business license.

Last week, the Changgu Travel Agency in Kaohsiung faced financial difficulties, taking deposits from over 500 travelers but failing to operate the tours, leading to an order to cease business. This latest collapse of the Daye Travel Agency marks the second such incident this month.
