Tainan's 3D Floral Festival Kicks Off on the 23rd – “One Million Carats of Love” Spreads Happiness

Although the weather in northern Taiwan remains cold, the warmer climate of southern Taiwan has already brought a touch of spring. The annual “Tainan Floral Festival,” which takes place just before Lunar New Year, kicks off this year on the 23rd — and there are new floral art installations to check out this time around. Not only are all the floral designs this year “3D-ized,” but there are also various themed displays. Among them, a giant diamond light made up of one million carats placed amidst flowers will even sparkle at night, creating a sense of romantic love for couples.

Tainan’s cityscape is now bursting with springtime vigor. The “Tainan Floral Festival,” now in its fifth year, will be held this year at three locations: Jiali Park, Nanying Green Heart Park, and Tainan Park. In addition to preserving last year’s well-received floral displays, this year’s installations have all gone fully “3D.” Moreover, the Tainan Public Works Bureau has introduced various floral art installations with themes such as fairy tales, happiness, and blooming flowers to celebrate the New Year, allowing citizens to enjoy the beauty of spring and the happiness brought by the blossoms.

Nanying Green Heart Park is themed “Heart - All is Happiness.” Its floral designs include “The Waterer of Love,” symbolizing various forms of love; “One Million Carats of Love,” conveying the feeling of proposing; “Seeds of Happiness,” representing the joy felt from love that comes from the heart; “Hearts in Harmony,” using flower wall designs to express the love of 1+1; and also a “Path of Happiness,” where visitors can stroll leisurely among the flowers and enjoy their own moment of happiness.

Tainan Park is themed “Fairy Tale Stories,” gathering fairy tales from both China and the West such as Cinderella, Aladdin’s Magic Lamp, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Journey to the West to create a “Flower Fairy Tale World.” Jiali Park, themed “Spring Blossoms Greet the New Year,” features festive floral designs like big firecrackers and “Year after Year with Abundance” to send early New Year greetings to the public.

The “2014 Tainan Floral Festival” runs from January 23 to February 23, but the exhibitions at Jiali Park and Nanying Green Heart Park will only continue until February 9. The Tainan City Government also recommends that the public use public transportation to travel between the three parks and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of early spring.
