Kaohsiung Longcheng Park Opens, Creating a New Waterfront Green Corridor

Located at the intersection of Makadao Road and Hexi Road in Gushan District, Longcheng Park was officially opened today (24th). The park stretches 222 meters in length, covers a total area of 4,900 square meters, and cost NT$105 million to build. It will connect attractions such as the Art Museum, Neiwei Pi Cultural Area, Zhongdu Wetlands Park, Vision Bridge, and the historic Brick Kiln Factory, forming a waterfront green corridor that offers the public a relaxing leisure destination.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu stated that the site, adjacent to the Love River waterfront, was formerly an industrial area. Aside from old factories and residential clusters, the area had long been abandoned and left unused. The city government, through the Land Administration Bureau’s Equalization of Land Rights Fund, has re-planned and rebuilt Longcheng Park, ensuring the continuity of the Love River waterfront landscape and overall spatial development, with hopes of fostering better growth for Gushan District.

In addition, Chen Chu also mentioned that the city’s Urban Planning Commission has approved the urban plan amendment for the Taiwan Cement Gushan Plant area. Through this amendment, public facility land will be acquired to construct drainage and flood prevention facilities, aiming to completely resolve the flooding issues around Gushan Third Road. In the future, once the Taiwan Railways underground project is completed, ecological corridors and other infrastructure will also be planned via urban design to accelerate the development of the Gushan area and create a win-win situation for both the city government and its residents.

Longcheng Park features landscape elements inspired by the historic brick kilns of Zhongdu area, as well as a bicycle parking zone. It provides visitors with a space to rest and admire the beauty of the railway riverside, while also allowing for leisurely strolls along stone-paved pathways surrounded by various green plants. The park offers a safe and comfortable recreational environment for tourists and local residents alike.
